How to overcome a rough week!
We all have those days when everything seems to go wrong, but what if you have a week where nothing seems to be going right?
On monday your alarm didn’t go off and you were late for work. Tuesday your car broke down en on wednesday you lost your creditcard. On tursday your boss told you you will not be receiving your bonus this year because of the financial crisis and on friday you got a speeding ticket. How are you supposed to deal with a series of setbacks and bad news like that?
When the walls start to crumble many people have the tendency to crumble right along with them.
I have developed the habit to not let circumstances around me affect me. I have learned in the past that the things and events around you don’t determine your life, but how you handle them does affect the quality and direction of your life. What happens to you is not important, how you deal with it is! That can make the difference between a happy life and a depressed, unhappy life.
Many people can let go of negative things and thoughts, but when they are faced with a whole series of them during a short period of time, they feel sufficated and think that it is impossible to overcome all these negative things. It’s at these times that they start to feel helpless and powerless!
Why me must bounce back
By overcoming obstacles we find our inner strength. We know again that we can turn the negative things in our lives around. We have to realise that we can’t be a victim of the things happening around us. Have the courage to face your challenges!
If we let external circumstances determine our life, we will get a wrong perspective on life. Those who can’t recover from those negative periods will start to develop more and more negative thoughts. ‘Why does this always happen to me’, or ‘I’m so unlucky’ will get you in a mindset that makes you powerless. You won’t find the courage or the energy to face the challenges in your life!
How we can bounce back
1) What makes you tick?
Many people value their life by the possesions they have and their social status. But you are so much more than that. For some it might be their religion or spirituality, for others their creative passion or their strong relationships with friends and family! What makes you tick?
2) The Ant Philosophy
Whenever you see an ant and you put your thumb directly in it’s path it will instinctively find another path. The ant will go under, over, around or even through the obstacle in it’s way. Giving up is not an option. The ant knows there is another way and it works until it finds it.
3) The wake up call
Sometimes, the most painful and frustrating moments will empower us to learn and to change our life for the better. Napoleon Hill once said: “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache
carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit!”
4) Focus on the good
For some reason our minds dwell much more on the negative. Even if you watch the news, you’ll see mostly bad news. The producers know this is better for the ratings. Even thought it might seem that there are only negative things in your life, you will find positive things too, if you really look for them. They might seem small and insignificant. Maybe you ran into an old friend or heard your favourite song on the radio. Start focusing on these positive things. Whenever you find yourself dwelling to long on something negative, stop it and start thinking about something positive. You’ll be amazed how many positive things you’ll find in your life!
The seasons of life
Yes, the good times will come back. Most obstacles in life are temporary, even if they feel permanent. Be aware of the fact that both good and bad times come and go. How you handle all of them determines the quality of your life.
Eventually good things will come, the might even come from the bad things. But you have to be willing to see the good things!
